Origion of the word “Jajim”

Due to similar words in Turkish such as Gichim, Gijim and Jajim, this word seems to be a Turkish word. Jijim in Turkish is composed of “Jij”, which means beautiful and full of patterns, and  “im” means mine and the first person singular pronoun. These words also use in Turkmenistan and the Caucasus and Turkish-speaking cities in Iran such as Mahabad, Zanjan and Birjand.

No exact document or information is available on the history of this type of weave in Iran. In an old persian Book related to about 1000 years ago, a Cloth similar to Jajim is mentioned. Its history, probably goes back to more than 1000 years ago.

You should be so carefull when you are washing woven jajims made from wool. In hot water, changes occur in the texture of these products and their size changes. Therefore, you should use cold water to wash this type of hand-woven.

Origin, lineage and race of Bakhtiari tribes

You should know that similar to most of the tribes and groups in Iran, the Bakhtiari tribes also have their roots in the Aryan race and consider their origin as Aryan. In fact, the Bakhtiari ethnicity belongs to the Lor community of the country. So Lors are divided into two groups of large Lors, known as Bakhtiari and small Lors, in Lorestan, on the other hand also lang. but as we mentioned before they are divided mostly in two major groups known as Chahar Lang and Haft Lang. In fact, Haft Lang is one of the greatest nations in the world.

Bakhtiari History

It seems that there are many narrations about the name of the name of this nation. But the pure meaning of the word Bakhtiari comes from being lucky and happy. But it also may come from the ruler of this tribe and people, Bakhtiar. Also during the Safavid dynasty, the name of Mirza Jahangir Khan was known by the word, Shakil Bakhtiar. Perhaps, this name goes back to one of Mirza Jahangir Khan’s ancestors.

War between Arabs and Bakhtiari Tribe

Shortly after the defeat of Mohammad Taghi Khan Chahar Lang Bakhtiari, a group of women and children of the Bakhtiari tribe, along with hundred and twele horsemen of Bakhtiari, went to the mountains of Bakhtiar to be safe. This group was led by Ismaeel Makvand, known as Kasmal, they encountered about 1500 Arabs in Czech Cedar area. The leader of Arabs, was Shaikh Hamid bin Ahmed Sharifat. In order to be close to Manouchehr Khan Gorji, this person intended to kill the bakhtiari people on his behalf. Manouchehr Khan became one of the courtiers during the region of Fath Ali Shah. Sahrifat intended to covet and reach out to the beautiful women, property and spoils of the people. but, fourteen riders from the Bakhtiari tribe carried out the destruction of women in case of defeat.

At the same time, the women of three tribes braided their hair in such a way to save the arrow by shooting three people together. While confronting the Arabs, Kasmal, started his speech and used precise war tactics and invited the men of bakhtiari to war.

And each bakhtiari man fought just like a lion. They also defeated and fled, despite the multiplicity of Arabs, flags and weapons. Thus, in this war, Arabs suffered a humiliating defeat. Finally, in addition to defeating the Arabs, the bakhtiari people were able to gain many captives and even spoils. This event took place in 1220 AH.

It is good to know that the Bakhtiari race consists of a group of groups that gradually migrated to Bakhtiari land. By combining life with the native, they were able to form a tribe with political and social conditions called Bakhtiari. The bakhtiari people were considered as a part of the great Lor. Also, Bakhtiari tribe is divided into two groups called Chahar Lang and Haft Lang. each of them can represent a branch of the Bakhtiari tribe.

In general, Lor and Bakhtiari both are same tribe. Both have the same history and root. So there is no difference between Lor and Bakhtiari tribe.

In old days, immediately after a baby was born, they made it clear and fix that to whom the girl or boy will marry in the future. It is a fixed and old tradition that the groom, should give a valuable gift or some golds or cash to his mother in law. This gift, gold or cash is for the milk the mother gave to her daughter. And the most interested thing is that this money would be spent on dowry to buy necessary household stuff.

The bride herself will make the rug and carpet, for they are best in this art. Usually the bride’s father will buy few things and send them to his daughter and son in law’s house. Some also give their daughters a male cow, or a horse. And a very common, traditional and interesting part is that the Bakhtiari Bride should take a copper tub, for taking a bath. To be honest these kinds of traditions you may find everywhere and in so many different ways, but the tribes have the most interesting and different traditions all around the world.

When someone passes away in Bakhtiari tribe, the most important thing is that the other relatives and friends never will leave the mourner family. They try to sit with them and help them in all ways. The tradition is to wear black clothes. The mourner family will make a black tent as well, so the whole family and relatives can come even from far distances and stay with them. a very interesting and respected tradition is the people who come to visit the mourner family, will pay for the food and everything to help the family with their fund situation.

Horse is the most important animal along with tribes where they ride and travel with them. And it is good to know that all people in Bakhtiari tribe know how to ride a horse. This animal is raised by the bakhtiari people from birth. At the age of three, a saddle will be tied around the horse’s back to prepare them for loading. After the carrying the load several times, the horse is definitely tired and wants a little rest. This will repeat several times and then the horse is ready. In this way the horse will be ready for riding or carrying more time. Horse are used also in mourning and wedding ceremonies and also games. Indeed, the Bakhtiari horse should be considered as one of the most beautiful horse breeds.

Are Bkahtiari people Greeks?

There are two theories about the origin of the Bkahtiari people. the first one is based on the sayings and researches of some anthropologists such as Wilson, WHO, citing scientific articles by Loimer, say: “The bakhtiari dialect is originally Iranian mixed with old Pahlavi words. Also a mixture of Arabic, Turkish and Kurdish with tribal roots.

The second theory is based on the words of another researcher, Schneider. He believed that the Bakhtiari were non-Iranians of Greek, Turkish and Mongol descent. Deciding on this important issue requires more research and knowing the name of the word Bakhtiari. At the end what is important is that they are Iranian and live in Iran.

Tradition and beliefs of Bakhtiari people

Women’s clothing in the Bakhtiari tribe

The most colorful clothes belong to women of Bakhtiari tribe for sure. They use a large silk scarf. This scarf is rectangular in shape. They use a decorative hat called Lak. Which is decorated by coins, pearls and sequins and is placed under the scarf. There also is a silver chain, which uses to hold the scarf and stains firmly. This chain has a nice decoration which manifests itself in a special way. And the blouse or shirt or the outfit which is being used for the upper body, should cover till knee and usually has a slit. The trousers which are usually made of velvet fabric, are pleated trousers. The velvet vest also worn over the shirt. And the shoes, Bakhtiari women’s shoes are made of leather and are called sash.

Men in Bakhtiari tribe, use a fleece top called Chokha or Chogha. This unique outfit has a height below the knee and is in a beautiful combination of black and white lines. The combination of the colors in Chogha can be a symbol of good and evil. so Bakhtiari pants which men use have very wide slippers called debit, it is good to know that these pants are only in black color.

Bakhtiari tribes usually wear these pants with coat and leather belt. The men use a black color hat on their head which is the sign of greatness. The shoes which men in bakhtiari tribe use are known as Give Maleki. It is handmade shoes with leather sole.

Women are the main pillar of any effort in Bakhtiari tribe.

A historical building remained from Qajar era in Jolfa district in Isfahan city in isfahan province, known as Keshish House, is one of a few old buildings and houses that remained almost intact. This historical house belongs to a priest named, Gargin Hananian. That is why it is called Keshish house or the Priest House. Keshish in Persian means Priest. In the following, we will introduce the Keshish House nad the history of this house, the address and the location.

In Jolfa district, which is one of the old districts in Isfahan, you can find an old Qajar accommodation with the Safavid architecture. A Priest was the owner of this house. The architecture of this house is Iranian Safavid. The priest named, Gargin Hananian and was the respected priest of the Vank church.

This priest was a respected one between Armenian Community in Isfahan and in fact that is way he’s buried near the bell tower in the vank church. He was born in 1881 in Jolfa district in Isfahan. He educated in Jolfa and for higher education he went abroad. Indeed, Armenian and priests used to travel to India and Lebanon for higher education.

He became a priest in 1910 but after working hard for years. Additionally, the popularity of the Keshish House and this Qajari accommodation, is not only because of the architecture and the design, but also for the personality of this priest and the owner of this historical house. In addition to religious activity, he used to write and translate. In his life time he wrote many articles and books in Armenian, French, English and Persian and all were published in known magazines and journals.

He wrote the book named, Armenian Churches in English and also a Persian-Armenian dictionary. Translated works of him are “Martyr Armenia” English to Armenian and “Armenian nation” from French to English. As a result, the Persian-Armenian dictionary published in 1933 in Tehran.

This historical house, which now is known as Keshish House Boutique and Keshish House Hotel in Isfahan and in Jolfa district, has a unique design. The main building includes the Shah-Neshin, which means the main hall and the biggest room of the House, a vestibule or an arctic entry, rooms and a nice big terrace. You will see a water fountain in the yard which is an important element of an Iranian architecture. There are four columns in terrace with an impressive design. Arts like, glass and mirror work, Qashani and colorful wooden designs.

I, Ali Tavakoli, as a hiker and a veteran of war who have lost one leg and a residence of Aligoodarz in Lorestan province, have implemented the national plan of peaking 31 summits from 31 distinct provinces of Iran which is designed by Mountaineering and Sports Climbing Federation, that obviously is responsible for determining the highest peaks in Iran.

I had to start from Polour city that was 455 km far from my own city, Aligoodarz. I reached there at 10:00 am. After providing the requirements, we started our route by a car toward Goosfand sara. We had to pay 15000 tomans as a toll but I refrained from paying as federation does not provide any services to climbers.

Finally, we started at 13:00 pm from mosque that is located in 3000 m height toward third base in 4200 m height. We reached there at 16:30 after 3:30 climbing. Next morning, we got up at 5:00 am. The onset of climbing was at 6:00 am. After 6 hours hiking from southern route and passing through steep slopes in harsh weather condition due to winds, we reached at the summit in 5671 m height.

The weather condition was harsh due to wind that was blown with 70 km/h velocity. We spend 15 minutes on taking photos and congratulating to our peers. Afterward, we left summit at 12 :00 pm toward third base. We reached there at 14:00 pm. We took a rest and had lunch and started to come down at 15:00 pm toward mosque. We finally reached mosque at 18:00 and used another car to reach polour camp successfully.

A monument with many floors which was one of the Fathali Shah accommodations. During ages, numerous important political and religious people lived there, for instance minister of Ghajarie era.

 This palace is registered as a national monument in 2005. After repairs, people are using it as a caravansary that includes hotel and restaurants. You need to walk up a lot of stairs to reach restaurants.

Podoces pleskei-Zaghe bur

Iran has a diversity of birds that are not native but zaghe bur. These birds live in desserts exclusively, considered their specific beauties. From the habitats of Zaghe bour, Turan park and conservation area of Abbasabad in Naeen city are the most important ones. These birds have completely adapted to live in dessert and could not be found in anywhere else.

It has a blonde-pink color that help it to camouflage in dessert. It could be nimble on rough stones duo to its strong feet. Also, its hard beak could easily excavate the ground. It usually prefers to walk around rather than flying. Its most favorite flora are Ghich, Peanut, Sagebrush, Pruritus and Tamarisk.
Ghich is a short plant with thick and watery branch and small leaves like spoon.

Persian name: Bor chicken, Zagh bour, Bour chicken, Kaviri zagh, English name: Persian Ground-Jay, Scientific name: Podoces pleskei, Size: Size of this bird is about 24 cm.

Habitat

It lives in desert and semi-desert steppes. Their favorite place is QichZar. This birds prefers the qich to nests to other plants. They  built the nests together with Qichs.

Reproduction and regeneration

In the spring, this blond Iranian crow lays two pale green eggs in its nest. The mother is responsible for maintaining and sleeping on the egg for 1 to 2 days. The male is responsible for supplying food. Distribution of chicken boron in  is found in eastern and southeastern parts of Iran. Their areas and environment is desert areas.

By eating the seeds of the plant and disposing of it elsewhere helps to produce plants. This is the cycle of nature between wildlife, which leads to a balance in nature. Unfortunately this year we are destroying the wildlife of Iran by eliminating this cycle.
