Firstly, we should tell you that this product is a type of traditional persian handicraft. Jajim wove with the weaver’s hands and feet with help of a simple machine in all provinces of Iran.

Origion of the word “Jajim”

Due to similar words in Turkish such as Gichim, Gijim and Jajim, this word seems to be a Turkish word. Jijim in Turkish is composed of “Jij”, which means beautiful and full of patterns, and  “im” means mine and the first person singular pronoun. These words also use in Turkmenistan and the Caucasus and Turkish-speaking cities in Iran such as Mahabad, Zanjan and Birjand.

History of Jajim in Iran

No exact document or information is available on the history of this type of weave in Iran. In an old persian Book related to about 1000 years ago, a Cloth similar to Jajim is mentioned. Its history, probably goes back to more than 1000 years ago.

Application of Jajim

Some of the applications of this product includes bedding, bedspreads, rugs, bed covers, chair covers and backrests. Today, this product also use in a variety of bags, shoes and sofa covers.

Jajim woven from wool absorbs humidity. Using it in the cold regions as a blanket is useful instead of using Balnkets made from artificial matetials, especially in rheumatic patients. Also in the warm regions, you can use cotton woven jajim to keep the body cool.

Disadvantages of Jajim

You should be so carefull when you are washing woven jajims made from wool. In hot water, changes occur in the texture of these products and their size changes. Therefore, you should use cold water to wash this type of hand-woven.

Which province of Iran has the highest number of Jajim production?

In Iran, the highest volume of Jajim production is related to the nomads of Ardabil province. The nomads of Ardabil, Meshkinshahr, Khalkhal and Namin weave this product.
